Frequently Asked Questions

What makes hayfever go away quickly? +
A non-drowsy antihistamine tablet (cetirizine, loratadine, fexofenadine) gives relief within an hour. For a blocked nose, a decongestant nasal spray works in minutes but should only be used for 3-5 days. Steroid sprays work best when started a couple of weeks before symptoms peak.
How can I quickly relieve hay fever? +
Take a non-drowsy antihistamine, rinse pollen off your face and hair, and stay indoors during peak pollen hours (early morning and evening). For severe symptoms, combine an antihistamine tablet with a steroid nasal spray. Speak to our pharmacists if symptoms persist after 7 days of treatment.
What is the 3 day rule for allergies? +
Decongestant nasal sprays (like xylometazoline) should not be used for more than 3-5 days in a row. Longer use causes rebound congestion where the nose gets more blocked once you stop. Antihistamines and steroid sprays don't have this limit and are safe for daily use throughout the season.
