Sudafed Nasal Spray 0.1% is a decongestant nasal spray containing xylometazoline, used to help relieve a blocked or stuffy nose and sinuses caused by colds and allergies such as hay fever.

  • Active ingredient: xylometazoline hydrochloride 0.1% w/v (140 micrograms per spray)
  • Pack: 15ml metered spray, about 53 doses
  • Suitable for: adults and children aged 6 years and over; children aged 6 to 12 only after talking to a doctor or pharmacist, and only when simple measures have not helped; not for children under 6
  • How to use: before first use, press the pump until a single spray comes out; use one spray into each nostril 2 to 3 times a day, with no more than 3 doses in 24 hours
  • Duration: adults and children 12 and over should not use it continuously for more than 7 days, and children 6 to 12 for no more than 5 days, as longer use can make congestion come back; talk to a doctor if you do not feel better or feel worse after 5 days
  • Do not use if: you are allergic to xylometazoline or any of the ingredients; you take, or have taken in the last 2 weeks, an MAOI antidepressant; you have recently had brain surgery; or you have had your pituitary gland removed
  • Cautions: do not use with other cough and cold medicines; speak to your pharmacist first if you have high blood pressure, heart disease (such as long QT syndrome), diabetes, an overactive thyroid or an enlarged prostate, or take other antidepressants or blood-pressure medicines; ask your doctor or pharmacist before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Contains: benzalkonium chloride, which may irritate the inside of the nose, and sorbitol; if you have been told you have an intolerance to some sugars, talk to your doctor before use
  • Safety: Always read the label and the patient information leaflet before use.
