NiQuitin Classic Step 1 21mg 24 Hour Patches are a nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) medicine used to help people stop smoking. Each patch slowly releases nicotine through the skin, which helps relieve some of the unpleasant withdrawal symptoms and cravings smokers may get when they try to quit, and helps them resist the urge to smoke.

Step 1 (21 mg) is the starting strength for heavy smokers, meaning people who smoke more than 10 cigarettes a day. It is used every day for the first 6 weeks, then followed by Step 2 (14 mg) in weeks 7 and 8 and Step 3 (7 mg) in weeks 9 and 10. A new patch is applied once a day to clean, dry, hairless skin and worn for up to 24 hours, using a different area of skin each time. This pack holds one week's supply.

The patches are not for non-smokers, occasional smokers or children under 12. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before use if you are in hospital after a heart attack, stroke or severe heart rhythm problems, or if you have diabetes, eczema or dermatitis, epilepsy, stomach or duodenal ulcers, serious liver or kidney problems or an overactive thyroid, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Your chances of quitting improve if you take part in a support programme; the National Smokers' Quitline is 1800 201 203 and our pharmacists at Leahy's Pharmacy are happy to advise.

Always read the label and the patient information leaflet before use.
